The Old Square (Piata Veche) - The Great Lake - Jig-Vaidoaia Plateau - Tarina Lake Discovery Walk
This discover walks starts from the Old Square of Rosia Montana going right where the road branches. Just near the bar, turn left on the 'sicilian street', an interesting area rich in 18th century houses that can be easily recognized due to the specific arhitecture elements. The road continues on the little street, and after passing a second bridge, a soft slope begins and a road turns left. Go on until you find some rocks which are part of the Vaidoaia mountain, where you'll be able to admire some gorgeous galleries. From those rocks you turn right on a narrow road among some houses. Finally you reach a house with a long wall and a rock-made gate – here was directed the Romanian film 'The Stone Wedding'. At some point you will find a crossroad and you can choose the left road which goes to the 'Great Lake', a cart-road which has a direct destination – the lake. From the lake, you go left where you can notice the Rotunda Peak.
The road continues to a new crossroad, where you can turn left again towards Jig-Vaidoaia. You will reach the stone road which leads to Rosia Poieni, the largest copper mine in Europe. You must follow the route on left, (opposed to the mine from Rosia Poieni) to get on the top of Vaidoaia, the place where FanFest – the green music festival – takes place annualy in the last weekend of August. You go ahead until you reach a paved road, on which you will find a white cross made of rock. You keep left for the road that goes down to 'Tarina Lake'. From Tarina you go on a road through the woods, and you reach another crossroad in front of the cemetery. Then you'll turn left again, find a crossroad again, and finally arrive back in the Old Square. What might seem difficult at first for tourists is the fact that on a rainy weather this walk can be pretty difficult, but if you are well-equiped, you won't have any problems. For sure this discovery walk is a great exercise and adventure. Our tourist information point at Rosia Montana is located at the Alburnus Maior office on Strada Berk 361.
