THE GOLDEN WAY LEEDS TO THE NATURE OF ROSIA MONTANA

Rosia Montana is situated on the North-Western slope of the Apuseni Mountains (Carpathians Western range) at about 80 km distance from Alba Iulia ; 50 km from Brad and between 11 km and 15 km from the cities of Abrud and Campeni. Situated at almost 800 m altitude, Rosia Montana is a charming village, far away from the city rush, with views that combine slow slopes and large rock cliffs that protect Roman Galleries .

The Roman Galleries ' entrances can be easily traced due to their trapezoid shapes dug into the rocks that surround Rosia Montana . Climbing on the top of the rock cliffs is easy and well worth it; this at any time of the day. The views are spectacular!

Rosia Montana 's meadows start flowering in early May and are a delight for any nature loving explorer. The fields change colours almost every week until late summer when the ‘haying' ends. Discovery walks amongst the meadows are a ‘must' and you will often find a local working his field, who would proudly want to tell and show you some of the rare flower species hidden in his field. Many of the discovery paths out of the village lead you to the traditional Apuseni households with their large yards and orchards. One can't ignore the striking Roman marks of the ancient settlements such as the Roman road in the valley of Corna . The view is completed by ' tauri ', which are artificial lakes built a long, long time ago.

Five of these lakes are still well preserved and are well worth their walk for a picmic, a swim or just for their tranquil beauty. They are called: Taul Tarinii, Taul cel Mare, Taul Anghel, Taul Brazilor si Taul Cornei. The farms and households are spread along the Rosia Montana and Corna valleys are guarded by several mountains - Rotunda (1187m), Ghergheleu (1157m), Carnic (1087), Tile (918m).

At Rosia Montana you can also visit two areas protected for their geological importance - Piatra Despicata and Piatra Corbului which are massive rocks that dominate Corna Valley .
