ROSIA MONTANA 's FLORA AND FAUNA

Rosia Montana 's rich geology has over the millennia and centuries shaped a particular Flora and Fauna. The majority of Rosia Montana 's surfaces are meadows laced amongst others, with various orchid species, Arnica and other protected plants. At the various points of higher altitude like the rocks and entrances into the old mine shafts, the Fauna consists of rock plants which are rich colour and texture. These particular habitats naturally attract animals that thrive in such environments. Rosia Montana 's mine shafts for example, are a perfect habitat for bats and a total of nine species have been found here. Rosia Montana 's meadows are traditionally cut with the scythe, which is also the best way to maintain the pastures' biodiversity. Wolves still haunt the area; this particularly in winter as they descend into the lower areas in search for food. However there is much more to explore and since 2003 various Romanian and international Flora and Fauna experts have researched the area to better understand Rosia Montana 's value.

Below are a few easily accessible reports to help you get an idea of what you can find. Whilst these are by no means a full inventory of Rosia Montana 's biodiversity, they are an indicator of what's there and what you can expect to see….by literally just walking into the landscape.
